Art Chadwick: Large Flowered Cattleya Species
Art Chadwick: Large Flowered Cattleya Species
Art holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State and an MBA from James Madison University. He founded Chadwick & Son Orchids Inc in 1989 with his father who had been growing orchids since 1943.
‘The Classic Cattleyas’ is widely considered to be the definitive book on large-flowered Cattleya species and was written by Art and his father. Martha Stewart favorably reviewed the now-sold out book and had both Chadwicks on her TV Show. A 2nd edition has since been released.
Art has the distinction of naming Cattleya hybrids after the wives of the last six U.S. Presidents and personally presenting the flowers to most of the honored recipients. He has spoken at two World Orchid Conferences - France 2005, Ecuador 2017 and his popular orchid advice column appeared each month in many newspapers around the country for 20 years.
Chadwicks operates 11 greenhouses in rural Powhatan County, two retail stores in Richmond, and boards over 13,000 orchids for local clients. The company was recently featured in Southern Living magazine, The New York Times, the Washington Post, CBS Sunday Morning, and O Magazine.
Large Flowered Cattleya Species
Large Flowered Cattleya Species follows my father’s book, The Classic Cattleyas, and highlights the eight species that were used for cut flowers in the US then adds nine additional species – all of which give growers something in bloom 365 days a year. From C labiata in 1821 to C jenmanii in 1906.
DOS Summer Picnic, Smoky Hill Clubhouse
This event includes afternoon tours of 3 members’ home growing areas followed by a potluck and auction at the Smoky Hill Clubhouse in Centennial. Plenty of parking. This is a Denver Orchid Society, members only event.

Peter T. Lin with: 12 Months of Orchid
Peter T. Lin with: 12 Months of Orchid
About Peter
I am an avid orchid hobbyist, hybridizer, and AOS judge and owner of Diamond Orchids https://www.diamondorchids.com/ in Southern California. I grow primarily mini-catts, Mini Vandas, Dendrobiums and miniature species. I frequently give talks at various orchid societies and have written articles for the Orchid Digest and ORCHIDS magazine.
Peter will be bringing an assortment of plants to sell and for our Opportunity Table!
Below is a brief biography:
Peter started growing orchids over 40 years ago, but then stopped due to school and starting a career. It wasn't until about 20 years ago that the orchid "bug" came back and he is now heavily involved once again! He is an accredited judge with the American Orchid Society, and a hybridizer of mini-catts. He enjoys meeting with other orchid enthusiasts, and can often be found at various orchid shows and societies around the country.
Due to limited growing space, Peter likes to specialize in miniature orchids, both species and hybrids, and has received numerous AOS awards. His interests in orchids include Dendrobiums, Angraecoids, and Neofinetias. He is also known as "Mr Sophronitis" as he has a passion for growing and collecting them. He maintains a collection of a several thousand orchids at his home in Southern California in 3 small greenhouses, outdoors, as well as an offsite greenhouse.
12 Months of Orchids
This fast paced PowerPoint presentation discusses how to build an orchid collection to have blooms for every month of the year. There are many orchids that bloom at different times of the year, so instead of concentrating on one season, now you can have a collection of orchids in bloom for each month of the year!
